In Part 1 of the 3 Quick Ways to Lose Weight series, we talked a bit about incorporating exercise into your life to make some long-term improvements into your life. Not only is exercise one of the quickest ways to lose weight by far, but it’s also one that can completely transform your body into thin and lean example of physical fitness. The second of the 3 quick ways to lose weight focuses more on WHAT you put in your mouth (as opposed to how much). The thing that many people don’t realize is that feeling “full” can still feel good, even if you are full of stuff that’s good for you. Being full of fruits and vegetables can be just as satisfying as being full of cheeseburgers and french fries. Yes, I know… I’m off my rocker, huh? Try it. Really, just try it one time and see. When you replace the bad food in your life with good things, you still eat with the same frequency and you eat just as much, but you still lose a lot of weight.
Here are a few suggestions:
- Switch from regular, sugary soda to diet soda (yes, I know that it doesn’t taste as good but you will get used to it).
- Try replacing potato chips with baby carrots (if this is too difficult try switching to baked chips).
- Try scrambled eggs in the morning, instead of a donuts or Pop-Tarts
- Replace a bowl of ice cream with a frozen fruit smoothie.
- Be sure to eat a vegetable at every meal… and eat a large portion of the veggies before you eat anything else.
- Eat an apple approximately 1 hour before dinner (sure it will probably ruin your appetite… that is the whole point).
If you do this gradually, it’s much easier to accomplish… but, your results will be much quicker and more substantial if you make a few positive change all at once.
I’ve written a lot about how important it is to control hunger, and choosing a weight loss method that addresses hunger as a real barrier to substantial weight loss. That is what this part of the 3 Quick Ways to Lose Weight is all about. If you are still eating the SAME AMOUNT of food, you will not be hungry.
It’s true.
The difference, of course, is how many calories these items provide to your body. Take my suggestion for eating eggs instead of donuts as an example: although scrambled eggs take up the same amount of room in your body as a donut, the difference in calories is astounding. Not only that, but the eggs will feed your muscles, your brain and give your body some good building blocks to work with throughout the day… while the donut will only feed your fat cells and cause your blood sugar to spike and make you hungry for more sugary food a few hours later.
